Carolyn Quadrio is Associate Professor in Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales and practises in Psychotherapy and Forensic and Child and Family Psychiatry. She was formerly Chairperson of the RANZCP Bi-national Committee for Advanced Training in Psychotherapy and Director of Mental Health Services with Corrections Health Service in New South Wales. She is well known as a teacher of marital and family and individual psychotherapy and in 1989 she introduced the Master of Psychotherapy program at UNSW. Her major research has been on sexual abuse of patients in therapy; the long-term sequelae of childhood sexual abuse; and women in psychiatry – as patients and as practitioners. Her current interests are in the role of childhood and developmental trauma and family violence in psychosocial outcomes throughout the life course.
Carolyn Quadrio will continue Isla’s thinking here and their many conversations on the link between childhood trauma and adult psychopathology with particular reference to the concept of Complex PTSD and the difficulty of expressing these problems in the language of psychiatric diagnosis.
